Gidding - Figure 13 - Pravastatin in FH Text

Data from a trial with pravastatin in children, conducted by Wiegman et al. in the Netherlands[19], show that early treatment with medication slows the rate of carotid IMT progression. In this Figure the open circles represent carotid IMT values after 2 years of placebo, whereas the closed circles represent carotid IMT measurements after 2 years of 20-40 mg/day of pravastatin therapy. The carotid IMT values are decreased slightly in those who received pravastatin treatment, whereas they are increased slightly in those who did not. These data also reinforce the suggestion that the earlier the age of treatment, the greater the benefit.
