Ito - Figure 7 - Once weekly rosuvastatin

For patients with adverse reactions to what is currently the most potent statin per dose, rosuvastatin, will modifying the dosing to once weekly provide relief? The Figure shows the results from a series of patient cases published by Pat Moriarty and Jim Bacchus in The American Journal of Cardiology in 2007.[26]

Moriarty and Bacchus took 10 patients who had shown previous intolerance to statins, the majority with issues of myopathies, and moved them to a once-weekly regimen of rosuvastatin.. After this alteration in their treatment regimen, 8 of the patients were able to continue on once weekly rosuvastatin, whereas the other 2 still could not tolerate this therapy. Overall there was an average serum LDL cholesterol reduction of 29% in these patients who remained on therapy and were followed for an average of 4 months, suggesting that these patients were able to tolerate once weekly dosing of rosuvastatin.
