Ito - Figure 3 - Impact of statin Rx

This Figure shows the impact of statin treatment on a Japanese patient population. In this study[24] the investigators looked at the age of onset of CHD in patients receiving statins versus those not receiving statins during 2 time periods

The Figure shows this distribution when the CHD was first identified in these individuals, stratified by men and women. The blue bars are the distribution of the age of onset of CHD in patients not receiving statins and the yellow bars are the same distribution for patients receiving statins. It can be seen that for men the age of CHD onset was about 40 years whereas it was about 50 years in women, but for patients on statin therapy, the distributions are now skewed to the right by about 10 years. In other words, statin therapy delayed the onset of CAD by about 10 years, and this was an independent predictor even after multivariate analysis for other confounding factors.
