2006 Guidelines and 2011 Update

This Figure updates the previous Figure, [91][92][93] with the addition of the 2012 American College of Chest Physician Guidelines (ACCP). [94] as well as the 2012 Stroke Consensus Report, [95] both of which recommend the newer oral anticoagulants in preference to warfarin.  The new direct thrombin inhibitor (DTI) dabigatran is listed as an alternative in preference to warfarin, but that was because these guidelines preceded the approval of the 2 newest NOACs in the new class of Factor Xa inhibitors, rivaroxaban and apixaban, and physicians should be aware of the newest agents in both classes.
