Significant Exacerbation Rate

FIG. 59: When we averaged the number of exacerbations per day, as discussed in the previous Figure, there were significant differences in exacerbation frequency between patients assigned to addition of home NIV, with a reduction of approximately 1 exacerbation/patient/year.[1] This was statistically significant whether all exacerbations, (untreated, self-treated, or physician treated) or admissions were included, or significant exacerbations, ie, those that led to an admission to hospital or a physician-assessed change in treatment, were counted. Again, this revealed a statistically significant improvement with home NIV, with a hazard ratio (HR) of 0.66.
