28 Day Readmission
FIG. 56: There was an early separation in the Kaplan-Meier plots for admission-free survival (upper left panel) between HOT alone and the home NIV arm.[1] We were keen to look at 28-day readmissions, as there are significant drivers within the healthcare systems in both the US and UK that target 28-day readmissions with financial penalties for health institutions.
In this post hoc analysis (upper right panel) there was clinically and statistically significant benefit of home NIV, with a highly statistically significant adjusted hazard ratio of approximately 0.26, leading to significantly reduced numbers of readmitted patients within the first 28 days in the home NIV group. Just 7 (12%) of the home NIV patients were readmitted during that period (bottom table), whereas in the home O2 therapy arm there were 22 (37%) of patients readmitted.
