The presence of chronic respiratory failure strongly influences outcomes

FIG. 13: In conclusion, from the data in the previous Figure,[13,14] it is clear that patients with chronic respiratory failure represent have the worst prognosis and may therefore have greater benefit from the addition of home NIV. In other words, the presence of persistent hypercapnia is very important.
