Non-invasive Positive Pressure Ventilation

This Figure shows the principal results of a systematic review and meta-analysis of noninvasive positive pressure ventilation (NPPV) for the treatment of respiratory failure resulting from exacerbation of COPD.[11] Addition of NIV to standard treatment avoided endotracheal intubation and reduced mortality, with a number needed to treat (NNT) with NIV in order to avoid endotracheal intubation of 5, and to reduce mortality, 8.
