Standard and NIV

This Figure shows the results from a study published in 1995 on the use of NIV for treatment of acute exacerbation of COPD.[10] The study compared NIV in addition to standard treatment versus standard treatment alone and found that addition of NIV to standard treatment was associated with a lower rate of intubation, a lower rate of complications, and a lower rate of mortality. In addition, hospital stays for patients using NIV in addition to standard treatment for acute exacerbation of COPD were shorter than in patients receiving only standard treatment
