5. Positive Pressure Ventilation Trial
This Figure shows the results of the primary outcome parameter of the German multicenter study,[5] mortality rate, which was significantly lower in the group receiving HMV compared with the control group. This study was the first to show that once HMV is employed to significantly reduce elevated CO2 levels in patients with stable hypercapnic COPD, there is a positive impact on long-term survival.
