Barter - Figure 6 - Effect of CETP inhibition

This Figure shows the principle behind the concept underlying attempts to therapeutically inhibit the activity of CETP. What the Figure shows schematically is that if CETP can be inhibited, this blocks the transfer of cholesterol from HDL particles to the VLDL and LDL particles or, in other words, from the potentially protective to the potentially harmful lipid subfractions. This then leads to the predictable effect of increasing the concentration of HDL cholesterol and decreasing the concentrations of the potentially harmful VLDL and LDL cholesterol.
