Goldberg - Figure 8 - Public / provider awareness Text

As discussed in this Figure, one of the great challenges with FH is public and provider awareness. FH is a significant problem, but awareness of FH is extremely limited, both among the general population and among a lot of healthcare providers. In the United States, for example, there are many providers who do not really recognize or diagnose FH, and most patients have not really heard of it, either. However, the NLA recommendation is that early diagnosis of FH should be promoted as a means to increase prevention and treatment of CHD. Public awareness of FH needs to be increased by a variety of methods, and healthcare provider awareness needs to be increased through education at all levels and in multiple specialties, through partnering with professional organizations and through local, national, and international health agencies.
