Goldberg - Figure 2 - Screening recommendations Text

Screening patients for the possible presence of FH is an important part of the policy initiative of the National Lipid Association (NLA) for raising awareness of, and decreasing the disease risk and morbidity from, FH. FH is a relatively common but eminently treatable disorder associated with a high risk for development of CHD events. FH meets the World Health Organization (WHO) criteria for conducting systematic screening, which further underlines the NLA’s recommendation that primary healthcare providers and relevant specialists should screen all children and adults for hypercholesterolemia if there is any cause for suspicion of the presence of FH. In addition, all patients with FH and severe hypercholesterolemia should immediately begin treatment according to the recommended strategies.
