To summarize, there are 4 take home messages concerning recognizing and managing FH in pediatric patients:
- Universal screening for FH is recommended at about age 10 years.
- FH should be treated with statins beginning at about age 10 years and younger if risk is considered extreme.
- It is extremely important to continue primordial prevention efforts in FH patients
- Recognizing patients with homozygous FH and referring to specialty centers can be a lifesaving response.
