Toth - Figure 9 - Physical findings

What are some of the most important physical findings of FH? As listed in the Figure, the classic ones include: yellow-orange cutaneous xanthomas, tendinous xanthomas, as well as periorbital xanthelasma or corneal arcus (which especially in patients <45 years of age can be highly suggestive of FH). FH patients can also be expected to develop heart murmurs stemming from aortic or mitral valve stenosis, and can also develop marked aortic outflow tract stenosis. Arterial bruits are relatively common because of plaque development within the carotid and femoral vessels, and finally these patients can suffer from polyarthritis and chronic tendinitis.
