Toth - Figure 12 - Homozygous signs

The trio of photographs in this Figure show patients with homozygous FH. In the leftmost panel is a 5-year-old child who already has marked xanthelasma and formation of yellow-orange cutaneous xanthomas along the buttocks, thighs, and lower back. In the middle panel is a 17-year-old afflicted with a very large xanthoma overlying the olecranon process of the elbow. Finally, in the rightmost photograph is a 21-year-old patient with very marked xanthomas along the metacarpal heads as well as the proximal interphalangeal joints; they are purple because the patient has actually bled into them.
