Benefits of Supplemental Oxygen in Oxygen

Fig. 7:  This Figure shows the benefits of supplemental oxygen in COPD.  First and foremost will be the effects of supplemental oxygen on reducing mortality in COPD.  However other potential benefits have also been demonstrated with use of supplemental oxygen in patients with hypoxemia, such as improving symptoms of depression, improving cognitive function, reversing the consequences of secondary pulmonary hypertension, improving sleep quality, improving quality of life, enhancing exercise capacity, and reducing the need to be admitted to the hospital.
