The key point for physicians and healthcare providers to "take away" from the new NLA recommendations published in 2011 in the Journal of Clinical Lipidology is that risk stratification algorithms are not recommended.  Individuals with FH are at high risk for CHD, and the evidence suggests that the 10-year CHD risk in FH patient is not adequately predicted by any conventional risk assessment tools.  As a result, use of any of these algorithms to calculate 10-year risk of CHD events in FH patients is not recommended.
