There are other factors that impart risk in patients with FH. An area that is coming increasingly to attention is the concept of maternal versus paternal inheritance of FH. As shown in the Figure, total cholesterol, LDL-C, and apolipoprotein B (ApoB) are all significantly higher in patients who inherit their FH via maternal processes as opposed to paternal processes.
