This Figure highlights the progression of CHD from a normal artery to an early atherosclerotic lesion.

One of the major concerns in the care of FH patients is how commonly people are not aware of that they have FH: 80% of persons with FH have not been diagnosed. They may know that they have elevated cholesterol, but often have not been diagnosed as having FH. This is quite concerning because this means that we are missing the opportunity to perform cascade screening of their family members.
