NIV in COPD patients with prolonged hypercapnia after ventilatory support for acute respiratory failure

Fig. 30: The RESCUE trial randomized 201 patients with COPD and prolonged hypercapnia (assessed 48 h after termination of ventilatory support) to NIV (101 patients) or standard treatment (100 patients).[14] The primary endpoint was time to readmission for respiratory causes or death, and the secondary endpoints were blood gases, lung function, health-related quality of life (HRQL), daily activities, and dyspnea.
