FIG. 39: This Figure shows the results of a study of about 3500 patients who came to the sleep laboratories at the Mayo Clinic. The study followed up patients with no prior history of AF to see if the presence or absence of sleep apnea had any effect on the development of incident, or new-onset AF.[30] The result was that patients who had sleep apnea were much more likely to develop new-onset AF compared with patients who did not have sleep apnea.
