Incidence of VTE Recurrence
What is the risk of recurrent VTE? If a patient has a transient or reversible risk factor, the best estimates suggest that the annual risk of recurrence is around 1% to 4% (Figure 4), although some researchers have suggested that around 3% is the best estimate.[2] On the other hand, in patients with continuing risk factors -- such as those already mentioned (eg, prolonged immobility), others such as cancer, or those with no identifiable risk factors -- the risk of recurrence is approximately 10%.
