Disability with Ischemic Stroke

As shown in the previous Figures, when stroke occurs in patients with AFib it is frequently severe and commonly fatal.  Looking across both sets of patients with disabling or fatal strokes and with or without AFib, the Figure shows that almost 65% (41.2% + 23.7%) of these patients are chronically disabled, with significant morbidity and mortality risk.[13] However, the patients with an ischemic stroke who also have AFib are highly significantly (p<0.0005) more likely to be chronically disabled (bedridden).
