This concludes the first presentation in this session, on the general background to the demographics and definition of nonvalvular AFib and the risk of stroke. The Figure lists the other topics that will be covered in the following presentations, including recent data on the use and roles of new anticoagulants, the so-called novel oral anticoagulants, and use of anticoagulation in special populations. Finally we will conclude with a round-table discussion reviewing all of these topics.
