James A. Reiffel, MD - Novel Oral Anticoagulants - Figure 1

Title & Introduction

After several decades during which the only oral anticoagulant agent that physicians could prescribe for patients was warfarin, new classes of novel oral anticoagulant (NOAC) agents have been approved.  This presentation will review these new NOACs, highlight their recent clinical trial conclusions, and discuss their use considerations in atrial fibrillation (AFib).  The important point, by way of introduction and conclusion, is that the future of oral anticoagulation has arrived; for physicians who have struggled with warfarin for their patients over the years, ‘The Future is Now.’
