As a result, in their December 2009 Practice Bulletin, ACOG gave a Level A Recommendation (Level A is the strongest recommendation, based on consistent scientific evidence), because:
- HPV DNA testing is more sensitive than cervical cytology in detecting CIN 2/3, and;
- Women with a negative “co-test” result can be reassured that their risk of having unidentified CIN 2 or CIN 3, or cervical cancer, is approximately 1 in 1,000.
This is very reassuring data.
