CCCaST Conclusions
The interesting findings from this study:
- HPV DNA testing combined with Pap testing is the most sensitive method for cancer detection.
- This landmark study attracted a lot of attention because it proposed a potential shift from cellular methodology to viral molecular testing, i.e., use highly sensitive HPV DNA test for the first round of screening and perhaps follow by cytology (which as we recall, has high specificity, and clinical utility in those women who test HPV positive).
