Canadian Cervical Cancer Screening Trial (CCCaST) – Methods, Design:
- Over 10,000 women ages 30 to 69 seeking screening in Montreal and St. Johns, Canada, were enrolled in this study.
- They received HPV DNA testing (Hybrid Capture® 2) and conventional cytology.
- Women positive on either test went to colposcopy.
Study significance: First large randomized clinical trial where HPV testing compared as a stand-alone test to the Pap test in a North American population with access to quality care.
